In a unique display of hometown allegiance, Philadelphia radio station Q102 has decided to ban Taylor Swift’s music for the entire weekend leading up to the highly anticipated rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. This will be the first time Travis Kelce, the Chiefs’ tight end, faces off against his brother Jason Kelce, who plays as the center for the Eagles, since the Chiefs defeated the Eagles in the 2023 Super Bowl.
Radio host Nugget from Q102 humorously announced, “Q102 is punting Taylor Swift from the radio station for the entire weekend because while Q102 loves Taylor Swift, we can’t get enough of her. This weekend it’s really important we show our support for the Birds.”
This decision comes after dating rumors circulated about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce when Swift attended one of Kelce’s games against the Chicago Bears on September 24. Since then, Swift has been spotted at several Chiefs games, including those against the New York Jets, Denver Broncos, and Los Angeles Chargers. In return, Kelce attended some of Swift’s Eras Tour stops.
Q102 isn’t the only entity in Philadelphia trying to keep Swift out of the mix leading up to the Chiefs-Eagles game. Patti LaBelle, during an appearance on The Tamron Hall Show, sent a playful message to Swift and her fans, saying, “Taylor and all your Swifties, back up boo-boo. [The Chiefs are] going down. The Eagles are gonna win. It’s a done deal. So, I love you Taylor, but stay home.”
Travis Kelce, showing his support for Swift, attended the opening night of her Eras Tour in Buenos Aires during the international leg. He was seen dancing and singing alongside Swift’s father, Scott Kingsley Swift. During the performance, Swift even gave Kelce a shoutout by altering the lyrics of her song “Karma” to playfully reference him.
In a New Heights podcast episode with his brother Jason Kelce, Travis Kelce admitted he had some prior warning about Swift’s special acknowledgment during the Buenos Aires concert but was still shocked when it happened. The ban on Swift’s music by Q102 adds a lighthearted touch to the excitement building up around this unique clash between the Kelce brothers and the Eagles facing off against the Chiefs.
