The alarming rise in deepfake incidents has once again stirred controversy on social media, with actors such as Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif, and Kajol falling prey to manipulated videos. The most recent target is Alia Bhatt, whose face has been digitally inserted into another woman’s footage, as reported by HT. Despite the circulating controversy, Alia Bhatt has not yet responded to the situation.
The emerging deepfake video featuring Alia Bhatt portrays her facial features seamlessly integrated into the original footage of another woman, who is seen making various gestures on camera.
This follows the viral deepfake video incident involving actress Rashmika Mandanna. Expressing her dismay, the ‘Pushpa’ star highlighted the potential misuse of technology to tarnish someone’s image. Mandanna voiced her concerns, stating, “I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly extremely scary not only for me but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused.”
The AI-generated video showcased Mandanna, in a black dress, entering an elevator, but the footage was of another individual, manipulated using deepfake technology. Responses poured in from various quarters, with figures like Amitabh Bachchan and Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar expressing concern and calling for legal action.
Amitabh Bachchan, in response to a tweet about the identical video, stated, “Indeed, this presents a robust basis for legal action.” Even Prime Minister Modi addressed the issue, acknowledging deepfake as a significant concern and instructing the ChatGPT team to incorporate warnings for deepfake content.
