During the COP28 summit in Dubai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a meeting with his Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni. Modi expressed confidence in the collaborative efforts of India and Italy for a prosperous and sustainable future. The two leaders previously met during the G20 Summit in India in September, where they discussed various sectors such as trade, commerce, defense, and emerging technologies.
Giorgia Meloni, who had visited India earlier in March for the 8th Raisina Dialogue 2023, described Modi as the most loved leader globally during a joint press briefing. She commended his leadership and congratulated him on being a significant figure on the world stage.
At COP28, Prime Minister Modi launched the ‘Green Credit Initiative’ aimed at creating carbon sinks through public participation. He also proposed hosting COP33 in India in 2028. In his address, Modi emphasized the need to shift away from a destructive mindset that prioritizes personal benefit, especially in the context of carbon credits driven by a commercial mindset.
