The highly-anticipated second season of “Loki” has received its first reviews, and it seems that critics are overwhelmingly positive about the show. The follow-up to the hit series, starring Tom Hiddleston, has left critics impressed with its thrilling action sequences and the new depth added to the storyline by directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.
The first season of “Loki” ended with the multiverse breaking, and the second season picks up in the aftermath, with Loki embarking on a journey in search of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes, and the truth about possessing free will and glorious purpose.
Critics have heaped praise on the second season. Jenna Anderson from Comicbook.com expressed her enthusiasm, calling it her favourite Disney release of the year. She commended the outstanding cinematography and the cast’s ability to handle a complex plot. While not flawless, Anderson found it quite appealing.
Erik Swann from Cinema Blend hailed “Loki” as “must-see TV” and described the first four episodes as “kooky, charming, funny, and sweet.” Eric Martin’s work as an executive producer skillfully builds on the show’s mythology, promising fans a wild ride.
Rob Keyes of Screen Rant praised the season for taking bigger risks, making it faster and better than the first season. Depending on how they follow up the fourth episode, Keyes believes it may become the best Marvel Studios show on Disney.
Ke Huy Quan, a newcomer to the series, received special recognition. Josh Martin-Jones from The Streamer was particularly impressed with the casting and commended the show for its timey-wimey excellence and willingness to take risks when the story demands it. Quan’s portrayal of TVA member OB was highlighted as a standout performance.
Kirsten Acuna from Insider shared her thoughts on the first four episodes of “Loki” season 2, acknowledging that it wasn’t exactly what she expected, particularly after the events of the first season’s finale. She appreciated the return of Hiddleston and Wilson, but found certain parts challenging to follow. Nevertheless, she praised Ke Huy Quan as the show’s best addition.
Season 2 of “Loki” is scheduled to air on Disney from October 6, with weekly episode releases, and based on these initial reviews, it looks like fans have a thrilling and engaging season to look forward to.
